The Provincial Nominee Program in 2026: allocations restored and provinces empowered
The Provincial Nominee Program is central to Canada's 2026 economic immigration plans. After the 2025 cut to roughly 55,000 nominations, the federal government set the 2026 PNP allocation at 91,500 — a 66% rebound that gives provinces far more room to select workers for local labour-market needs.
Where the nominations go
Ontario holds the largest share, followed by Alberta, Manitoba, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, with meaningful growth across the Atlantic provinces. Each province decides its own streams and priorities — healthcare, trades, tech and rural/regional pathways feature heavily in 2026.
Base vs. Express Entry-aligned streams
Most provinces run both "base" streams (direct provincial applications) and "enhanced" streams aligned with Express Entry, where a nomination adds 600 CRS points and effectively guarantees an ITA. Choosing the right lane — and the right province for your profile — is often the difference between a fast pathway and a long wait.
Track the pace
Because allocations are finite, provinces that consume their nominations early may slow down later in the year. Watching consumption pace (which our draw dashboard tracks) helps you time an application while spots remain.
