Document replacement FAQs

My PR card expired — can I still travel?
An expired PR card doesn’t change your status, but you can’t board a flight to Canada with it. If you’re abroad, you’ll need a PR Travel Document — we can arrange this.
I lost my document overseas. What now?
Depending on the document, we’ll file a PRTD or replacement and prepare the declarations IRCC requires for lost or stolen items.
Are the government fees above final?
They’re the standard IRCC amounts in CAD and can change. We confirm the exact current fee for your case at your consultation; our professional fee is quoted separately.

What is a PRTD?
A permanent resident travel document, applied for from outside Canada, that lets a PR without a valid card board a flight home. Your residency obligation is assessed as part of it.
Can I use a refugee travel document to visit my home country?
No. It cannot be used to travel to your country of citizenship, and attempting that travel can lead to your protected status being reassessed.
Do I still need visas for other countries?
Often yes. Every country sets its own entry rules, and requirements for holders of these documents can differ from those for passport holders. Check each destination before booking.
