Super visa for parents coming to Brampton

A multiple-entry visa for your parents or grandparents, valid for up to 10 years, with stays of up to 5 years at a time. It turns on three things: your household income, a paid insurance policy and a clean invitation. We prepare it with you from our office on Mayfield Road.

01 · The stay

One visa, ten years of visits

A visitor visa usually means stays of up to six months. The super visa lets a parent stay up to 5 years per entry, so a grandparent can be in Brampton for a child’s first school years without returning home in between.

5 years

The longest stay on each entry to Canada.

+2 years

An extension applied for from inside Canada, before the stay ends.

10 years

The longest the visa can be valid. It never outlasts the passport.

02 · The Brampton household test

Minimum income for your household

Find your household size, then compare it with line 15000 of your Notice of Assessment for either of the last two tax years. If you reach at least 75%, your parent’s own income may cover the rest.

Low income cut-off used by IRCC for the super visa, in effect from July 29, 2025. Each additional person: $8,224. Source: IRCC.
HouseholdMinimum incomeHost share at 75%Relative size
1 person$30,526$22,895
2 people$38,002$28,502
3 people$46,720$35,040
4 people$56,724$42,543
5 people$64,336$48,252
6 people$72,560$54,420
7 people$80,784$60,588

Household = you, your spouse or partner, your dependent children, anyone you still have a sponsorship undertaking for, and every parent or grandparent you invite. The two March 2026 income routes are explained in the full super visa guide.

03 · Insurance

Four checks before you pay

Insurance is where Brampton families most often lose time: a policy bought from the wrong company, or a quote sent instead of proof of payment. The policy has to pass all four.

  1. $100,000 or more

Coverage for healthcare, hospital care and repatriation, for each person invited.

  2. A full year

Valid for at least one year from the day of entry, and shown again on every entry to Canada.

  3. The right insurer

A Canadian insurance company, or a foreign insurer authorised by OSFI and on its public list.

  4. Paid, not quoted

A quote is refused. The policy is bought and paid for (instalments are possible) before the application goes in.

04 · The order of things

From Brampton, step by step

Half of the file is built here in Brampton by the host. The other half is done by your parent at home. The order matters.

  1. Count the household properly

You, your spouse or partner, your dependent children, anyone still under a sponsorship undertaking, and every parent or grandparent you are inviting. A wrong count is the most common reason a file fails on income.

  2. Pull two Notices of Assessment

Since March 31, 2026 the threshold can be met in either of the last two tax years. Pay stubs and an employment letter support the notices; they do not replace them.

  3. Write the invitation letter

A signed promise of financial support from the Brampton host, with the household list and the length of the visit. Our invitation letter checklist lists every line officers look for.

  4. Insurance and medical, abroad

Your parent buys the policy and books an immigration medical exam with an IRCC panel physician in their own country.

  5. Apply from outside Canada

The application is filed online while your parent is outside Canada, then biometrics are given at a visa application centre there. Government fees: $100 per person plus $85 biometrics.

  6. Extend from Brampton later

Each entry allows a stay of up to 5 years. An extension of up to 2 more years is applied for from inside Canada, before the current stay runs out.

05 · Questions

What Brampton hosts ask us

Is the super visa income requirement LICO plus 30 per cent?

No. The super visa uses the plain low income cut-off in the table above. LICO plus 30 per cent is the test for sponsoring parents for permanent residence under the Parents and Grandparents Program, a different application.

Can my brother or sister co-sign so we meet the income?

No. Only the host’s spouse or common-law partner can co-sign. Siblings and other relatives cannot add their income. If you are short, the second March 2026 route (your parent’s own continuing income) may close the gap: see the full super visa guide.

My mother is already visiting us in Brampton. Can she apply from here?

No. The super visa application must be made while the applicant is outside Canada. If she is here as a visitor, the usual route is to extend her visitor status for now and file the super visa from home.

Do you sell the insurance?

Buy the policy from the insurer or broker of your choice. Before anything is filed, we check that it meets every IRCC condition: amount, length, insurer and proof of payment.

Do we have to come to the Brampton office?

No. Many families prefer to sit down with their Notices of Assessment at the Mayfield Road office, but the whole file can be done by phone, email and secure upload.
