How does the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program work?

Ontario closed eight OINP streams on 25 June 2026, announced the following day — the three Employer Job Offer streams, both graduate streams and the three Express Entry streams. No further invitations will be issued under any of them. They are replaced by a single Ontario Workforce Priority stream, whose expression of interest portal opened on 4 August 2026. It is employer-driven and covers TEER 0 through 5, plus a pathway for self-employed physicians. Your employer submits the job offer through the Employer Portal first, and you then have 30 calendar days to register your own expression of interest.

Why is a provincial nomination so valuable?

An Express Entry-aligned nomination adds 600 CRS points, which in practice guarantees an invitation in a following round. It is the single largest score change available to any candidate.

Which province should I target?

The one where your occupation is in demand and where you have a genuine connection — work history, a job offer, study, or family. Chasing the province with the most nominations rarely works if your profile does not fit its streams.

Do I have to live in the province that nominates me?

Yes. A nomination carries an intention to settle in that province, and streams look for evidence that the intention is genuine. This is assessed, not assumed.

Can I apply to more than one province?

You can hold profiles in more than one province's system, but you must be honest with each about your intentions, and some streams require exclusivity. Misrepresenting intent is a serious risk, not a strategy.
