Manitoba has run a nominee program since 1998 — longer than any other province — and it still selects differently from everyone else. The 1,000-point EOI grid awards up to 300 points for connection to Manitoba: a close relative or friend who will support you, past study or work in the province, or endorsement from a community. Manitoba in 2026: the picture.

The other distinctive engine is the Strategic Recruitment Initiative: Manitoba directly invites candidates identified through employer services, Francophone recruitment missions, ethnocultural community partnerships and regional communities, so many nominees never compete in an open draw. In 2026 the province holds 6,239 nominations and swings between small invitation-only rounds and huge ones — draw 275 in July issued 2,146 invitations, 87% of them to Manitoba-educated graduates.

  1. Stream 01

    Temporary Resident Retention Pilot

    For temporary residents already in Manitoba. Since 4 February 2026 hospitality and food services is no longer an eligible sector, and a number of skilled trades were added.

  2. Stream 02

    Skilled Worker in Manitoba

    For people already working in the province, plus direct Strategic Recruitment Initiative invitations across four sub-initiatives.

  3. Stream 03

    Skilled Worker Overseas

    Requires an established Manitoba connection — supporting relative or friend, prior Manitoba study or work — or a direct SRI invitation. A job offer alone is not the gate.

  4. Stream 04

    International Education Stream

    Exclusively for Manitoba graduates: Career Employment Pathway, Graduate Internship Pathway and an International Student Entrepreneur Pilot.

  5. Stream 05

    Business Investor Stream

    One of the last open PNP business routes in Canada — Entrepreneur and Farm Investor pathways, roughly $500K minimum net worth and $150K–$250K investment, $2,500 fee.

  6. Stream 06

    Francophone rounds

    Dedicated selection rounds for French speakers — 84 Francophone invitations in the largest 2026 draw alone.

What matters: where Manitoba selection actually turns

    Connection beats score

    Up to 300 of 1,000 points ride on Manitoba ties. Overseas candidates without a connection or direct invitation are rarely drawn, whatever their human capital.

  2. 02

    Graduate retention machine

    In the biggest 2026 round, 1,874 of 2,146 invitations went to people who completed post-secondary study in Manitoba.

  3. 03

    Work permits before nomination

    Manitoba operates the federal Temporary Public Policy letting prospective MPNP candidates get work permits pre-nomination — a bridge few provinces run at this scale.

  4. 04

    Wildly variable draws

    2026 rounds ranged from 53 invitations (all directly invited) to 2,146. Cut-off watching misleads; category targeting decides.

Through the Express Entry pathway, an enhanced nomination lifts your Comprehensive Ranking System score by 600, which in practice means an invitation in the next round that includes provincial nominees.

When was the latest MPNP draw?
The most recent MPNP round on record was held on October 8, 2026, issuing 340 Letters of Advice to Apply (EOI draw #281 - International Education Stream, Skilled Worker in Manitoba, Skilled Worker Overseas). When is the next MPNP draw?
Draws alternate between small strategic-recruitment rounds and large Skilled Worker / International Education rounds - keep EOIs current and Express Entry profile numbers attached. Based on 2026 rounds to date, Manitoba has drawn roughly every 14 days, and the last round was 12 days ago. The tracker on this page updates automatically when a new round is published.
Does a Manitoba job offer qualify me for Skilled Worker Overseas?
Not by itself. The overseas stream is gated on a genuine Manitoba connection — a close relative or friend acting as supporter, past study or work in the province — or a direct Strategic Recruitment Initiative invitation. This is the single most common misconception about the MPNP.
How much do Manitoba draws vary?
Enormously. Draw 277 in August 2026 issued 53 invitations, all to directly-invited SRI candidates with no published cut-off; draw 275 in July issued 2,146, mostly to Manitoba graduates. Roughly 4,056 invitations had gone out by mid-July against a 6,239 allocation.
I studied outside Manitoba — can I use the International Education Stream?
No. It is exclusively for graduates of Manitoba institutions. Out-of-province graduates route through the skilled worker streams and need Manitoba work or a connection like everyone else.
What does the MPNP cost?
The application fee is $500 for skilled worker and international education streams and $2,500 for the Business Investor Stream. After nomination you have 180 days to file the federal PR application.
Does a MPNP nomination guarantee permanent residence?
No. Manitoba nominates you, but Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) makes the final permanent-residence decision after its own admissibility, medical and security checks.
How does the MPNP connect to Express Entry?
If you're nominated through the Express Entry pathway, an Express-Entry-aligned stream, you receive 600 additional CRS points, which effectively guarantees an invitation to apply in a following Express Entry round.
